Polly's Branch, Jan 31

Ben Corda February 2, 2015

A few of the guys from the office took an excursion this weekend. It was great to get outside. We decided to hike Polly's Branch, recommended to me by @thegoodnewsmuse on Insta. Turned out to be a fantastic hike, just like she said. Here are a few portraits of the guys.

So if you follow me on any other social media accounts, chances are that you have seen this kid. HIs name is Cody and he is a pretty rad photographer I have know since college. I was able to convince him to stop by in Tennessee and help us with some projects at Tennessee Tech.

This is his mandatory first day of school portrait taken with my fave 35mm non-portrait lens that I love to use for portraits.

Look for more from him here as he blogs WAY more than me.

George Dureau: A Chance Meeting

Went walking a few block from the hotel we were staying in and ran into the most interesting fellow posted up in front of a painting in the doorway of his residence. After a bit of banter he gave us a tour of his house, a marvelous three story building in the French Quarter. Professional photographs, paintings, sketches and snapshots littered every surface. It soon became clear that he had to be an artist of some renown. After seeing several gallery postcards and artist showings, I googled him and was astonished. Even more so to see THIS ARTICLE in the New York Times soon afterwards.

He was an interesting man and an interesting experience to say the least.

I recently had the chance to photograph two GOP presidential candidates. I wanted to shoot primes like old school photogs… I also shot some film in a really old camera that takes a lot of guess work, just to see if I would be able to catch something interesting. I still have to develop (in a dark room) the film I shot but here is a shot of Rick Santorum. Not a normal shot, but I liked it all the same.

Alma mater:

Last Saturday, I shot my first Louisiana Tech game post graduation. It felt different. I wasn’t shooting for a Tech publication. As a matter of fact, I was mostly shooting the University of Houston for the Associated Press.

This time I couldn’t wear my “relaxation pants,” an old v-neck and a backwards Tech hat. Even though no one would have cared if I wore my Tech hat, I left it in the car…

I shot the game, left early to make deadline and promptly forgot about it because I was in weekend mode.

Today I saw that my images made it into several large newspapers including The Houston Chronicle, The San Francisco Examiner and The Austin Statesman. Thanks to my great friend Johnny, I was able to see my name in print and not just online.

While this is a routine happening when you work for Gannett, its always encouraging to see my work leave Monroe.
